I recently went to get my hair cut at the American Barber Academy as a result of a Living Social voucher. Great haircut by student barber. Instructors were on hand to provide guidance and feedback. Great talking with everyone while I was there.
One suggestion though - for the neck shave, recommend using hot shaving cream over shaving gel. Overall, a great cut and experience!
I decided to try out the American Barber Academy after reading an article about them. The school is located in an office building above the Astor restaurant on Pershing St. You wouldn't know it's there because there is no visible signage. There is free parking in the lot behind the building, which is a bonus for Clarendon.
Booking an appointment is easy - you just go online and reserve a time on the day you want. You get a couple follow up emails to confirm and can cancel online too. The owner of the school a professional barber, makes sure one of her students is there to perform the haircut. I felt comfortable being a guinea pig because I normally buzz my hair short and there isn't much you can do to mess it up. While the student didn't have much experience cutting hair, he was careful and did a good job. The owner stepped in on some of the more complicated parts and made sure the haircut looked good. The best part is, it was only $7, though make sure you have cash because they don't take credit cards or have change for big bills. My last haircut was $19 plus a tip, so this is a screaming deal. I will definitely come back.
